Nancy Sinoway, Port resident and owner of Sinoway Designs, Nancy Sinoway Creative Tailoring & Alterations Studio and the Denim Hospital on Main Street, has launched an innovative line of bridal gown separates that can be purchased via her website www.nancysinoway.com. The website launched this week.
“I came up with the concept of bridal separates because I believe in creatively reusing clothes,” said Sinoway. “I call it to ‘up-cycle;’ to use clothing again and again, including mixing and matching
outfits with your wedding gown separates.”
Sinoway has a collection of bridal gowns that are sold separately as skirts, bodices, camis, veils, headpieces and wraps. Each piece can be worn interchangeably. She has a collection of sashes that add a pop of color and texture to each look.
“My goal is interchangeability,” said Sinoway. “A tulle skirt that was part of a formal dress can be up-cycled and worn again with a denim vest and cami. A white silk taffeta skirt can be worn again with a black lace bustier.”
All fabrics are made in France—lace, tulle, silk taffeta, 100 percent silk.
“I can do any length and size, up to size 22,” said Sinoway. “It’s online custom—I can do any color, mix and match tops and bottoms to create multiple looks that can be worn over and over again. And the bodices and camis are all bra friendly. You can buy just one piece or as many as you want.”
Sinoway’s unique style includes splashes of color. “I also have a black collection,” said Sinoway.
Sinoway’s line includes bridal veils and headpieces, wraps and shawls. She even has a handbag that can be worn as a wristlet. “Who doesn’t want their hands free when they’re at a formal event, yet still have essentials with them,” said Sinoway.
Sinoway’s website has videos that demonstrate how to tie a sash. Sinoway makes tying a perfect bow look very easy and each sash can
be worn in several different ways.
Sinoway always created custom special occasion dresses.
“I’ve been in the business for many years,” said Sinoway. “I worked for Vera Wang as well.”
Sinoway’s collection was photographed on dress forms, not models, for a look reminiscent of the 1950s.
“Since Princess Kate, wedding gowns are more classic,” said Sinoway. “More brides are looking for lace, as well, like Princess Kate.”
Sinoway has been in business for 40 years with her husband, Smitty, in Port, where they reside as well. Sinoway’s Denim Hospital has been a fixture in Port for many years. Sinoway repairs jeans, but she also “up-cycles” jeans as well. “I can add fringe, make a handbag out of a favorite pair of jeans, put initials on your favorite jeans…what ever you want.”
Sinoway makes a point of using local artisans whenever she can. She supports local businesses and used local artisans to create her website. “They all worked so amazingly together,” said Sinoway. “It made it all that much nicer. All true talents.
