Volunteers came together for a community service project to collect food and other items for the pantries in Port—St. Peter of Alcantara’s Food Pantry, Our Lady of Fatima’s pantry and Our Saviour’s Personal Care Pantry—by way of the Orange Bag Campaign on the weekend of March 12-13. Participants included Boy Scouts Troop 7 and St. Peter’s religious ed 8th grade class 8-2. The event was held at Stop N’ Shop.
Boy Scout Troop 7 is led by Vicki Nielsen-D’Aguanno, and St. Peter’s 8th grade religious ed class 8-2 is led by Warren Sanger. The students used the Orange Bag Campaign—a program that began about six years ago through the dedication and hard work of Clare Masi of the Lutheran Church of Our Saviour. The campaign is a very successful outreach program that raises awareness of families residing in Port living day to day facing food insecurity. This campaign was extremely successful, with well over a 100 bags collected per campaign. The items received were split between the pantries. All cash donations received that weekend went to Our Saviour Lutheran Church to help their Personal Care Pantry, which is also overseen by Masi.
These children, their families and some other wonderful adult helpers gave their time and talent, and the wonderful Port community gave their treasure and heart with their generosity and thoughtfulness.
