The Don Scott Memorial Foundation will host its Sixth Annual 5K Run this Sunday, May 15. The race will start on Plandome Road at Mary Jane Davies Gazebo and finish on Nassau Avenue prior to Park Avenue. The race course is USA Track and Field (USATF) certified.
The foundation is dedicated to reducing colon cancer instances throughout the community through increasing awareness and advocating preventative measures. The race sign-in and start will be located at Mary Jane Davies Gazebo. Don Scott was a biology teacher, track coach and beloved leader at Manhasset High School for 42 years. In November of 2010, he lost his three-month battle with colon cancer. The Don Scott Memorial Foundation was founded to make a difference in the fight against colon cancer. The funds raised will be dedicated towards initiatives including increasing awareness, prevention and outreach. In addition, the foundation will support the needs of the Manhasset High School running sport including an annual student scholarship.
Cash prizes awarded to the top three overall finishers: $100 for first, $50 for second, $25 for third. Performance race shirts, medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each age groups, male and female.
