Lecture: Free Speech and the Constitution
Library Lecture Series #1: Free Speech and the Constitution. Join adjunct professor, James Coll, for his informative lecture, Free Speech and the Constitution. Supreme Court decisions will be discussed in order to analyze the challenge of balancing this important civil liberty and public safety in America. Begins at 7 p.m. at the Bar Harbour library. Knit and Crochet
Come to the Plainedge Public Library and join Angie Gallo as she guides you through the steps of learning how to knit or croch et. You can bring your own project or choose from the many instruction books available. Please bring knitting worsted weight yarn and a #9 needle for knitting or a H or I  hook for crocheting. Fee is $5 cash or check made to Plainedge Public Library. Must register. From 1 to 3 p.m. in the community room. Dates are as follows: 5/25, 6/1, 6/8, 6/15.

Writing Our Stories Literary Tea
Come to the Bar Harbour library at 1 p.m. for the bi-annual Writing Our Stories Literary Tea, a public reading of the works of the members of Writing Our Stories, the library’s writing group for Senior Citizens, led by Mary Haughey. Everyone is invited to attend this event, and listen as these writers share their works.

Brown Bag Program
Senator Michael Venditto will be holding a free “Brown Bag” Medication Review Program at the Bar Harbour library from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Senior citizens are asked to gather all of their medications (prescription, over-the-counter medications, and supplements), put them in a “bag” and bring them in. Participants will be able to sit one-on-one with a pharmacist and review all of their medications. Upon the completion of the review, participants will be provided with a personal medication record. Reservations for this free program are necessary so call 516-882-0630.

Adopt-A-Battalion Soldier’s Drive
Come help put care packages together for troops overseas. Looking for personal care items, seasonings and hot sauces and items other than candy. From 9 to 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Island Knight of Columbus Council, 2 Eastgate Rd., Massapequa Park.

Memorial Day—Schools Closed
Massapequa Public Schools and the Plainedge School District is closed.

Memorial Day Parade
The Massapequa Park Memorial Day parade will begin at 10 a.m. Sgt. Peter F. Colleran Post #7763 Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post #1066 are once again jointly conducting the Memorial Day parade and service. The parade route begins at Broadway and Commonwealth Avenue in Massapequa; moves south on Broadway, east on Clark Boulevard to Park Boulevard, where it will be reviewed, proceed to Front Street, and travel west to Brady Park, where a memorial service and wreath laying ceremony will take place.

Safe Boating for All Ages
Join Ron Stehn for this free, six-week class that qualifies you for your safe boating certificate, which is required for operation of personal watercraft. Only one absence permitted. A written examination concludes the course. This course is open to all ages. All materials are provided. From 6:45 to 8:45 p.m. in the Bar Harbour meeting room. Movie: Creed
The Bar Harbour auditorium will show a 1:30 and 6:30 p.m. screening of the movie Creed. Adonis Johnson (Michael B. Jordan), son of deceased world heavyweight champion Apollo Creed, has boxing in his blood. Looking to win his own title, Adonis heads to Philadelphia and convinces his father’s rival turned friend Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone), to train him even as Rocky battles his own deadly opponent outside the ring. Now Adonis has a shot but first he must develop the heart of a true fighter in this new chapter of the Rocky story. (2015; PG-13, 2 hrs 15 mins). Starring Sylvester Stallone and Michael B. Jordan
