Friends of the Garden City Public Library will sponsor a free concert The Great American Popular Songbook performed by vocalist/pianist Mitch Kahn on Wednesday evening, June 15, at the Garden City Public Library. Hear favorite melodies from America’s 20th century including Broadway and Hollywood musicals. Enjoy timeless classics and selections by Jerome Kern, Irving Berlin, the Gershwins and much more.
Kahn has performed at dozens of New York City’s notable venues, including The Rainbow Room, Sardi’s, Tavern on the Green and the Copacabana and has appeared on numerous syndicated radio and TV programs. As one of New York’s top society pianists and orchestra leaders entertaining for private, corporate and charity events, his is a familiar face at the multitude of hotels, private clubs, restaurants and specialty banquet facilities across North America. A former musical child prodigy, Kahn’s training in classical and jazz piano, orchestration and voice, combined with his vast professional experience and keen audience insight have culminated in a series of intimate and innovative programs exploring the tremendous wealth of the Great American Popular Songbook.
The library is located at 60 Seventh St. in Garden City. Adults are invited to attend the Annual Meeting of the Friends at 7 p.m., which will be followed by the hour-long show and refreshments. Garden City residents will be given priority by presenting your Garden City Public Library card at the program room door.
