More than three dozen seniors were honored by the Town of North Hempstead recently at its 44th Annual Senior Recognition Luncheon. The seniors were honored for their outstanding service to their community. Many of the seniors were from the Port Washington area, including:
• Emiliana Barrera (North Shore University Hospital)
• Jerry Berkson (Sid Jacobson JCC)
• Louis F. Biundo (John Michael Marino Lodge #1389 Order Sons of Italy in America)
• Vincent L. Capasso (Cellini Lodge #2206 Order Sons of Italy in America)
• Anthony Carpinelli (Knights of Columbus Port Washington Council)
• Rosa Lobos (Port Washington Senior Community Service Center)
• Dorisanne Loeschorn-Butera (Knights of Columbus Seniors)
• Selwyn “Jerry” Rudnick (Project Independence Port Washington Advisory Board)
• Ellen Schaier (Port Washington Senior Center) 
Rosa Lobos, a member of EAC Network’s Port Washington Senior Community Service Center, was one of the awardees. Lobos was honored due to her passion for all members at the Port Washington Senior Community Service Center and her willingness to volunteer whenever there is a need. Lobos is also a community volunteer in Port Washington and enjoys donating her time to caring for others.
“I am so blessed to have received this award,” said Lobos.
EAC Network’s Senior Community Service Center provide seniors with a variety of activities such as socialization, recreation, health promotion, educational programs and congregate meals.
“Every honoree has dedicated themselves to improving the community and enriching the Town of North Hempstead, making it one of the most wonderful places to live,” Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth said. “Our town is fortunate to be home to seniors who are engaged in living life to the fullest and always willing to lend a hand to others.”
Supervisor Bosworth highlighted the town’s Project Independence program as a way that the town gives back to our seniors and their families on a consistent basis. Project Independence provides services such as transportation to doctor’s appointments and the supermarket, nursing and social work services and more. Many seniors who attended the luncheon are members of Project Independence.
