OurHarvest Expansion In Roslyn

OurHarvest AThe local online farmers’ market, OurHarvest, is celebrating its two-year anniversary. For the occasion, its co-founders said that based on growing demand, the company has expanded its product line as well as its pick-up schedule in Roslyn Heights to be four times per week. OurHarvest will now be at Trattoria di Meo every Monday, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., on Tuesday, from 10 a.m. to noon, on Thursday, from 10 a.m. to noon and on Saturday, from 8:30-10:30 a.m.
“Customers repeatedly tell us that our food is fresher and higher quality than equivalent options at the grocery store,” Scott Reich, company co-founder, said. “Our products are produced and/or harvested specifically for our customers, and because we go direct to our sources, the products reach customers literally days before they typically do in a supermarket.”
OurHarvest works when customers visit their website, www.ourharvest.com, pick the date and location where they want to shop, then show up on the specified date, while their prepaid food is packaged and waiting for them. Customers can order up until the day before their desired pick-up.
“There’s no need to visit specialty shops anymore,” added Michael Winik, the other co-founder. “At OurHarvest, you have the butcher, the baker, the milkman, the farmer, and the fishmonger all in one place, plus a lot more. Customers love our curated experience of offering the absolute best local products available from the best suppliers.”
Reich and Winik are Roslyn natives who founded the business in 2014. OurHarvest, they said, now serves several locations around Long Island as well as a convenient delivery option in Manhattan and parts of Brooklyn.
By working directly with local farmers and food artisans, OurHarvest sources all-natural products at peak freshness while working with community organizations to combat hunger at the same time. For every order above $25, OurHarvest donates a meal to a local pantry or food bank and has donated several thousand meals to date. The company now offers over 350 products from over 75 suppliers, including a wide variety of meats, seafood, produce, milk and eggs, pasta, jams, bread, cheese, and desserts.
“There are no questions about artificial additives, mislabeled products or where your food comes from. We also ensure that the farmers get their fair share, so everybody wins,” said Winik.
“We’re trying to turn the food supply chain on its head,” added Reich. “Middlemen increase cost and decrease freshness of products. They’re unnecessary in the modern world.”
The two co-founders attended Wheatley High School and both graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, where they were roommates. Prior to co-founding OurHarvest, Reich practiced law at Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP and authored the acclaimed book The Power of Citizenship about the life of John F. Kennedy. Winik worked at Evercore Partners where, in addition to advising some of the world’s largest companies, he ran the firm’s analyst recruiting and #1 ranked internship program. They both serve on the boards of local nonprofit organizations.
