The fifth Gurino Family Annual Cigar Party to Benefit JDRF will be held on Monday, Sept. 12, at the Strathmore Vanderbilt Country Club. Hosted by brothers Anthony and Angelo Gurino, the event continues to be a successful and well-attended gathering of family, friends and colleagues to support JDRF: Improving Lives, Curing Type 1 Diabetes, previously known as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which the pancreas stops producing insulin, leaving behind the challenge of a 24/7, unrelenting cycle of blood sugar testing and insulin injections to manage the disease. The disease strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever.
The Cigar Party is one of many grassroots fundraising and advocacy efforts that have helped JDRF become a powerhouse in the scientific community. The fundraising goal for this year’s event is $30,000. These funds are targeted to help JDRF progressively remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until no one has to fear developing this disease. The Gurinos invite all those who are interested to become a member of Team JDRF by joining them for an evening of cigars, as well as good food, cognac and other refreshments.
