A Brooklyn man was arrested for grand larceny after writing a phony check for more than $12,000 to a Great Neck business last summer, said the Major Case Bureau of the Nassau County Police Department.
According to Crimes Against Property Squad detectives, Darnell Smith, 28, hosted an event at Leonard’s Palazzo on Northern Boulevard on June 13, 2015. He paid his $12,220.31 catering hall bill with a fake check, which was denied because the account numbers were fraudulent.
Detectives located Smith on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016, at New York City probation and placed him under arrest. He was charged with grand larceny in the third degree and possession of a forged instrument in the second degree.
Smith will be arraigned on Friday, Oct. 14, at First District Court in Hempstead.
