Manhasset Christmas Tree Lighting Friday

TreeLighting_120915AThe annual Manhasset Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held on Friday, Dec. 2, at 4 p.m. at Mary Jane Davies Green in Manhasset. The event, hosted by the Manhasset Chamber of Commerce and the Town of North Hempstead in conjunction with the Manhasset Park District and the Manhasset Lakeville Fire & Water District, is expected to have hundreds of members from the local community and celebrate the kickoff to the holiday season.

Get out your antlers and put on your sleigh bells. This is the perfect time to get together with neighbors in the heart of Manhasset and have some good old-fashioned fun.

The program will feature the Pledge of Allegiance led by the Manhasset American Legion with a blessing from local clergy. To get you in the mood, a performance from the Manhasset High School Brass Choir will inspire even the sourest of Grinches.

The Manhasset Chamber of Commerce will announce the winners of the poster contest which had a Starry Night (Van Gogh painting) theme. and brought out a lot of creative artwork by the children in kindergarten through sixth grade.

“It was a tough job to make decisions on winners this year but this group of students and community leaders were up for the task” said Nancy Morris, poster chairman and owner of the Manhasset State Farm Insurance Agency. Judging took place at the beautifully renovated Adelina Salon and Boutique at 500 Plandome Rd. Adelina Rapo, owner and stylist of her own studio, had gifts for all participants. After arranging all the entries by age category the judges went to work making tough choices.

Come see the winning posters from Manhasset elementary schools: St. Mary’s, Shelter Rock and Munsey Park, created by talented students. Three winning entries for kids ages 5 though 11 will be recognized in each age group.

Not to be undone, come and gather for the official lighting of the Christmas tree. For those good little boys and girls, there will also be an appearance by Santa. Attendees will be treated to live music from DJ Kev D, a photo booth station and hot chocolate.

What better way to kick off the holiday season than with the official tree lighting.
