A 120-year-old mansion on Ridge Road in Glen Cove was destroyed by a fire last weekend. According to the Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department, the fire was reported at 2:06 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6, and took the efforts of more than a dozen departments—including Oyster Bay and East Norwich Fire Departments—over a 13-hour period to put out the blaze.
Glen Cove’s Engine & Hose Company No. 4 engines 528 and 524 were the first to respond, according to officials, followed by Pacific Engine & Hose Company No. 1 engine 525. Firefighters from Glenwood Landing, Locust Valley, Oyster Bay’s engine 552, East Norwich’s engine 518, Roslyn, Bayville, Syosset and Port Washington were among the 17 mutual aid departments that responded to assist with the blaze.
According to the department officials, the extreme cold and wind made the fire particularly difficult to get under control.
The call to 911 was made by a house sitter, who officials said made it out of the home safely. The cause of the fire is believed to be electrical and is being investigated by the Nassau County fire marshal. According to the authorities, no one was injured by the fire.
