The Art Guild will hold three diverse workshops this spring in March and April at The Art Guild at Elderfields Preserve, 200 Port Washington Blvd. in Manhasset.

On March 10 and 11, popular instructor, Stephanie Navon-Jacobson will teach Simple and Sophisticated Relief Printmaking. This seemingly naïve medium can be very sophisticated. Picasso, Matisse and many other artists have incorporated relief printmaking techniques into their artwork. Using four inch by six inch linoleum or Soft-Kut, and eco-friendly, water-based inks, we will explore one color, multiple colors and reduction as time permits. Let your creative juices flow in a supportive, encouraging atmosphere.

On April 20, 21 and 22, nationally-known colored pencil artist, Kristy Kutch will teach a three-day Colored Pencil Workshop. For many years, colored pencil was thought of as an inexpensive children’s art supply. Recently, adults have re-discovered the beauty, vibrancy and versatility of this simple, portable and no-mess tool. In this workshop Kristy will teach fascinating “painterly” techniques for all types of colored pencils on a wide range of surfaces. There will be demonstrations, individual attention, materials to sample, and a cache of take-home supplies. Kutch is the author of Drawing and Painting with Colored Pencil and The New Colored Pencil and her DVDs, including Colored Pencil Landscapes: Beyond the Basics, and Colored Pencil Techniques: Easy Landscape Painting, are available at North Light Shop. Kutch has taught colored pencil workshops nationwide, providing an informative, enjoyable and supportive classroom atmosphere.

On April 28, artist and photographer Howard Rose will teach a Cellphone Photography Workshop. Students will spend the day learning essential elements of photography including understanding your cellphone camera, deciding what to photograph and creating the best design/composition. They will also cover important categories for creating superior photographs. Rose will show editing apps that are easy to use, understand and implement for all future photography.

Classes for children, high school students and adults run year-round. Adult classes include Fundamentals of Drawing with Greg Follender, Get Sharp Drawing with Stephanie Navon-Jacobson; Drawing and Painting the Portrait with Leeanna Chipana, Watercolor for Beginners or Intermediates with Eileen Neville, and Life Drawing from the Nude (non-instructional). Dates for children’s classes for the spring, Art Explorations for ages 5-7 and Children’s Art Studio for ages 8-12 (Saturdays); and Solving Art for ages 8-12 (Wednesdays) will be announced in the coming weeks.
