Baruch Professor Arrested

Nassau County Police Special Victim’s Squad-Child Exploitation Section have reported the arrest of Dr. Ashok Vora of Manhasset, on July 10, on the charge of disseminating Indecent material to a minor. AshookVora 071818A
Vora, 70, is a professor of finance and economics at Baruch University- Zicklin School of Business. He received his undergraduate and masters degrees in India and received his PhD from Northwestern University. Vora has lived in Manhasset since 1990. He is married and has two children. He was active in the community and held positions as treasurer for the MSAA and was a former chairman of Boy Scout Troop 97.
Nassau County Special Victims Squad, in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Investigations, conducted an online undercover operation regarding child exploitation. According to police reports, Vora went by the online name of KevinNY and contacted an undercover agent posing as an 11 year old female. Vora directed the agent to an online chat at which he exposed himself via web-camera and engaged in sexual conversation. Vora was arrested at his home without incident.
Police request that anyone that has been contacted online by KevinNY should call the special victims unit at 516-573-4022.
Vora was arraigned on July 11 in First District Court in Hempstead. He was released on $5,000 bail.
