A new president, Douglas Weigler, has been unanimously elected by the congregation of Temple Judea of Manhasset. Weigler comes to the position with a broad background of experience in temple and community life. Before being elected president of Temple Judea, Weigler was fundraising chairman and ran successful events recently, which demonstrated his leadership qualities: a good sense of humor, sharp organization skills, the ability to work with his committee members with a strong sense of collegiality and knowledge of what is needed to be done at all times to assure a successful venture.

In addition to his many temple duties, Weigler serves in several capacities in local government endeavors. He was the president of the Community Association Institute, an educational organization for Homeowner Community Boards. He currently serves as vice resident of the Imperial Gardens Condominium Board of Managers, and is currently the chairman of the Village of North Hills Zoning Board of Appeals.

Ever since he was a teenager, Weigler was active in community and temple activities. He was the president of his temple youth group and also president of Long Island Federation of Temple Youth. He also, as a 17 year-old, participated in building hurricane-proof houses in Puerto Rico. This was a project of the “Mitzvah Corp” whose purpose was for high school students who traveled over the world to help poor people in an act of “Tikkun Olam,” which literally translates to helping to “heal the world.”

The congregation of Temple Judea looks forward to having Doug Weigler at the helm as its president and to working with him to further the goals of the temple.
