The Warrior World Series of Youth Lacrosse was recently held in Denver, CO. The event invites the nation’s top U13 boys lacrosse teams to compete in one of six U.S. regional qualifiers. With 24 teams across the country competing over three days, the top teams from each region advance to play the best teams from other regions and a select group of international teams. A number of Manhasset boys participated on three different teams.
The event founder is Jake Steinfeld and partner Ray Schulmeyer. Steinfeld is a fitness guru, best-selling author and entrepreneur and Schulmeyer is a lacrosse visionary who founded Aloha Tournaments and was the founder of Brine Lax Splash Tournament in 1999. The Warrior World Series of Lacrosse was created in 2014 as a platform for the best U13 lacrosse players in the world to compete in the top facilities on a national stage. To differentiate from all the other tournaments, Steinfeld got ESPN to broadcast the finals at Denver’s Mile High Stadium on ESPN2 on July 4.
The players checked in on July 1 and saw “fashion week in Paris for a 13-year-old lacrosse player” become a reality. New sticks, bags, shirts, shorts, pins and other gear awaited each player and play began. Following the first day’s games, all players competed in individual skills competitions. The player with the fastest shot, most accurate shot and fastest 40-yard dash time were identified. The second day of play, players and their families gathered for a banquet. After the championship game, select players and coaches were interviewed in a post-game press conference.
The World Series of Youth Lacrosse North Qualifier is one of six regional qualifiers for the fourth Annual World Series of Youth Lacrosse Championship Series in Denver, CO. This year, two Long Island teams faced off at the Sport Authority Field at Mile High Stadium and brought home the championships.
