Manhasset High School football fans were jubilant as they took to the field after Saturday’s Homecoming parade as they trounced the Herricks Highlanders with a score of 49-13. The Indians, under the management of Coach Jay Iaquinta, stormed to an early lead and never looked back.
Coach Iaquintta has been working with the team to push them to be “the best that we can be” and that was evident at the game. Quarterback Tim Barrett opened the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run and Aidan Mulholland followed with touchdown runs of 38 and 57 yards.
Joseph Mulholland returned an interception for 67 yards for another first-half score, and Stefano Troia added a 55-yard interception return of his own for yet another touchdown. Peter Lapina also blocked a punt for a touchdown and Michael Farrell’s second-half run of 24 yards closed out the scoring for the day.
Iaquinta came in with one goal in mind: he wants his student-athletes to make a major commitment to the team, so that they may enhance their teamwork skills and learn to truly depend on one another as not only a team, but as a family.
“This is an important win for Manhasset,” said Jim Amen, athletic director for Manhasset Public Schools.
Manhasset varsity football team has an overall record of one win and two losses in Nassau Counference II. They face Bellmore JFK High School at home on Friday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. Come on down and support the team. Go set!
