Oyster Bay High School freshman Luke Kugler won the gold medal in the épée finals during the Nassau County Individual Fencing Championships.

Freshman Luke Kugler and sophomore Gabriella Sherlock came out on top, each winning the Nassau County Individual Championship for their respective fencing discipline.

Kugler earned a gold medal in épée and Sherlock earned gold in foil. After both sustaining injuries earlier in the season – Sherlock tore her hamstring and Kugler suffered a knee injury – this was an impressive achievement for the fencers and was a testament to their hard work and dedication to the sport. The two continued to have a successful season, earning medals in local fencing tournaments such as the annual Brentwood Holiday Tournament. Here, Kugler and Sherlock took home a silver medal in épée and foil, respectively.
