Ten students from James H. Vernon School’s fourth-grade class will display their artwork on Long Island Beaches this summer. The students’ pieces were chosen by the Audubon Society’s “Share the Shore” initiative.
This initiative aims to teach young students about coastal birds. Students learned the importance of protecting these species and their environment.
Students created artwork that promotes Audubon’s message, encouraging beachgoers to properly dispose of their trash, observe pet rules and maintain a safe distance from nesting birds.
The Audubon Society will create weather-resistant signs with student artwork to remind residents of these precautions. The signs will be distributed throughout the north shore beaches, including Stehli Town Beach, Centre Island Beach, Sunken Meadow State Park and West Meadow Beach.
“These young conservationists’ designs are not only informative but also vibrant works of art. Congratulations to these talented students and their dedicated art teacher, Ms. Crowley,” said Erica Giglio Pac, distract director of Fine, Performing and Media arts.
She continued: “Go on a scavenger hunt this summer at the beach to find our young artists’ signs!”
