Walls of Honor Dedication at Veteran’s Plaza
The Nassau County Veterans Monument Fund, Inc., will be dedicating the 300 new names on the Walls of Honor at Veteran’s Plaza in Eisenhower Park at 10 a.m. The event will take place rain or shine.

Blood Drive
Assemblyman Thomas McKevitt (East Meadow) in conjunction with Long Island Blood Services, will be sponsoring a blood drive from 2:30 to 8 p.m. at North Bellmore American Legion Post #1749, 1298 Newbridge Rd., N. Bellmore. Donors must have a valid ID, weigh at least 110 pounds, be at least 16 years of age (16 year olds need parental consent and those 76 years of age and older need a doctor’s note), eat well, be hydrated prior to appointment and not have gotten a tattoo within past 12 months (unless applied in New Jersey). Call 1-800-688-0900 for further questions regarding medical eligibility. Those who wish to donate blood are asked to call Assemblyman McKevitt’s office 739-5119 to schedule an appointment. There will be great raffle prizes from local vendors including: Gino’s Pizzeria, Café Baci, Iavarone Brothers, Piccolo’s Restaurant and the New York Islanders. Starbucks Coffee will be providing free coffee all day.

Bingo For Kids/Families
On Tuesday evenings you can fun with your family at a special bingo designed just for kids. At Temple Beth-El of Bellmore, 1373 Bellmore Rd., N. Bellmore, you can play bingo for prizes (not cash) on June 30, July 7, July 21, Aug. 4 and Aug. 18. Doors open at 6 p.m. and games begin at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $5 per player. An adult must accompany the children. Adult play is optional. Bring a marker or purchase one at the event. The snack bar will be open at 6 p.m. and will serve a variety of reasonably priced items. No food can be brought with you into the temple because strict kosher food laws are observed.
Midshore Mother’s Center Summer Fun 2009
The Midshore Mothers’ Center invites you to take part in the 11th Annual Summer Fun Program. You can register for six-week summer programs, Daddy and Me T-Ball and Mommy and Me in the Park or take advantage of the lower group rates at venues such as amusement parks, museums, aquariums and zoos. Registration is now being taken for the summer Mommy and Me program. This is a weekly outdoor program for preschoolers at least eighteen months old, accompanied by a parent, which includes free play, snack and story time, crafts and music. The Wantagh Memorial Congregational Church, 1845 Wantagh Ave., Wantagh, will be holding its annual July 4 Chicken BBQ at noon on the lawn behind the church. Public Comment Session on ITHS Lead Contamination Cleanup
The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, in conjunction with the NYS Department of Health and the Nassau County Department of Health will hold two public availability sessions to present the preferred remedy for the cleanup of remaining lead contaminated soils at Island Trees High School. The public availability sessions are scheduled for 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 10 p.m. in the Michael F. Stokes Elementary School gymnasium. 101 Owl Pl., Levittown.
LI Crisis Center Seeks Volunteers
Long Island Crisis Center (LICC), the oldest 24-hour, seven-day-a-week crisis intervention and suicide prevention hotline, is looking for volunteers for the upcoming Volunteer Counselor Training Program. Those interested in becoming a volunteer telephone crisis intervention counselor with LICC must first call 826-0244 to schedule an interview. No experience is necessary to volunteer and the hours are flexible to fit the individual needs of volunteers. All counselors must begin with orientation training. The free comprehensive orientation training program takes place over three evenings in LICC’s office in Bellmore. The next training sessions will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. on July 9, 16 and 23. Free Mammograms/Cervical Exams
To uninsured women over the age of 40 provided by the Cancer Screening Partnership at Nassau University Medical Center. Free take-home test for colorectal cancer for women 50 and over and their partners will be distributed. These services are offered in conjunction with NUMC, North Shore/LIJ Health System, Planned Parenthood, South Nassau Communities Hospital and others, starting at 8:30 a.m. at NUMC, 2201 Hempstead Tpke., East Meadow. Local Marines/Families Golf Outing
The 2nd Battalion, 25th Marines Association will host its third Annual Golf Outing at Eisenhower Park on Aug. 3 to raise funds for the support of local Marine Reservists and their families. Play will take place on the Red and White Courses with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Check in begins at 10 a.m., followed by a barbeque lunch. Play will be followed by a buffet dinner at the Carltun. Proceeds will help the nonprofit organization provide comfort and support to family members of deployed Marines; care packages for those on the frontlines of the War on Terror; and if need be, funds will be used to assist wounded Marines or provide for the survivors of any killed in the line of duty. Vacation Bible School
