Anonymous Drug Disposal Program
Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi, Police Commissioner Lawrence Mulvey and Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Jon Kaiman announce an Anonymous Drug Disposal Program. Accepted medications include pain killers, tranquilizers, anti-depressants, antibiotics, over-the-counter medications, pet medications, vitamins, supplements, inhalers and more. Drugs should be in their original containers if possible, and if not placed in zip loc bags that are labeled. All drop offs will remain anonymous. The speaker will be Medea Berkman, Bideawee bereavement counselor. Mommy & Me Program
Registration is now underway for the Fall/Winter session of the Midshore Mothers’ Center’s Mommy and Me program, an interactive play program, with classes available for children from 6 months through preschool age and their parent or caregiver to share. The program includes story time, play time, music, movement, arts and crafts and snack. A modified separation class is offered for children over three years old. Tomorrow’s Hope Walk/Bike-A-Thon
The Tomorrow’s Hope Foundation will be conducting its 4th annual “Laps for Learning” walk/bike-a-thon that raises money for the Children’s Scholarship Fund. Laps-for-Learning is a family-fun event held at Cedar Creek County Park, Seaford. The walk/bike-a-thon consists of a 1-mile walk, 2-mile ride and a 4-mile ride. All participants will receive a delicious lunch generously donated by the New York State Councils of the Knights of Columbus. In addition, each participant will receive a free T-shirt to commemorate the event. Raffle chances, face painting, balloons, live DJ music and many more fun activities. Seeking Local Artists
The Autumn Artique, sponsored by the First Presbyterian Church of Levittown, will be held on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Autumn Artique will feature the artwork of church members and local residents as well as glassware, antique china, linens, toys, holiday decorations, books and more. Display space is available to artists who wish to exhibit and sell their work for a nominal fee of $25 for an 8’ display space. Volunteers Needed
The Mill Neck Family of Organizations is seeking volunteers to work at food sales, children’s activities, apple booths and more during the Fall Harvest Festival to be held on Oct. 10 and 11. The outdoor festival, known as “Apple Sale,” features a wide variety of apples and seasonable produce, craft items, a Cheese House, deaf specialty items and much more. Volunteer support from local civic and church groups, students, alumni, staff, parents and faithful supporters, have made this a special and memorable event. Volunteers can work from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., 12:30 to 5 p.m. or all day. Food tickets will be provided for all volunteers who work four or more hours. This year, the Mill Neck Family will host a “Kick-Off Breakfast for Volunteers” on Oct. 3 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Deaf Education Center.
