On Wednesday, Oct. 21 the Division Avenue Lady Dragons clinched the Conference 3 title with a 2-1 victory over Jericho High School. After winning their conference last season, they moved up to a much tougher conference this year.
This is the ninth conference championship for the Lady Dragons and the first back to back titles since the 1993-94 seasons. It is also the 20th year the Lady Dragons have qualified for the Nassau County Playoffs. This year the girls have a 7-0-2 record moving into the second half of their season.
This year’s offense is powered by Amanda Epple, Molly Bauer, Julie and Susan Ballantyne, and Christine Cardenas. Roaming the midfield will be Jo Jo Capitelli, Maggie Carew, Krista Fitzpatrick, Janelle Marxhausen, Zenia Materon, Kayla Sheldrick, Brittany Weissman, Kim Paulsen, and Alyssa Fiore. Strengthening the defense is Taylor Malings, Christina Rea, Kelsey Marxhausen, Alexa Schneider, Andrea Gonzalez, Emily Smucker, Kaitlyn Martin and Stephanie Cardenas.
Anchoring the defense in goal are keepers Nicolette Parmese and Brianna Spitaliere. Many of the varsity girls have grown up playing in the Levittown Soccer Club and have been trained well for many years, which is evident from the conference standings.
