The MacArthur Generals baseball program is proud to announce that five senior players have taken advantage of the NCAA early signing period to accept baseball scholarships.
Pitchers Frankie Vanderka and Josh Barry accepted scholarships to Division I Stony Brook University, shortstop Nick McQuail has accepted a scholarship to Division I Marist College and pitcher Andrew Mege and centerfielder Mike Scro accepted scholarships to Division II Queens College. Both local and out-of-state schools recruited each of these young men heavily, and in November they were permitted by the NCAA to sign a National Letter of Intent, declaring the school of their choice.
The students have worked very hard, both on the baseball field and in the classroom, to earn the opportunity to play college baseball. They are outstanding students whose academic achievements opened doors for them to the playing fields of fine colleges.
The MacArthur baseball coaching staff diligently strives to ensure that its players are placed in colleges and universities that suit them athletically and academically. Currently, 17 MacArthur baseball alumni are playing in college, with scholarship money totaling close to $200,000 per year. In fact, with the addition of players who will receive scholarship money for next year, MacArthur baseball alumni will be saving over $1 million in tuition over the course of a four-year college career!
Frankie, Josh, Nick, Andrew, and Mike are grateful to their parents, teachers, and coaches for helping them along the way. Several other MacArthur senior baseball players are still being recruited by colleges, but have yet to decide on their choices.
