The Island Trees Girls Varsity Basketball team had another successful week. The girls won two more games improving their record to 5-2 in conference. The Lady Dawgs are currently tied for first place.
On Thursday, the Lady Dawgs beat Hewlett 48-29. The offense was led by Maggie Milonakis who scored all 14 of her points in the first half. Lisa Indelicato added 6 points and 5 rebounds. The defense was solid again and had big contributions from Jessica Beissel and Michelle Giordano. On Saturday, the Lady Dawgs beat Valley Stream South for the second time this season by a score of 46-35. The offense was once again led by the sophomore duo of Maggie Milonakis with 17 points and Nicole Pellegrino with 16 points and 4 assists.
The defensive effort was tremendous by everyone. Great contributions were made by Jessica Beissel, Jaclyn Carabott, Erin Carey and Jackie Hart on the defensive end helping stop Valley Stream’s 6 foot, 2 inch center. The Lady Dawgs continue to dominate on the defensive end holding six of seven conference teams under 40 points. On the offensive end, sophomores Maggie Milonakis and Nicole Pellegrino continue their hot three-point shooting. Maggie currently ranks No. 1 in Nassau County with a total of 35 three-point shots and Nicole is No. 5 in Nassau with 20 three-pointers.
The Lady Dawgs next home game is Jan. 29 at 6:30 p.m. at Island Trees High School.
