MacArthur Girls Track and Field Break Records This Season

The girls MacArthur Track and Field team is looking stronger than ever in their 2009-2010 season. In the field at their first meet of the year, Kelly Clifford broke two school records. In the triple jump she broke the year-old record by jumping 34 feet, seven and a half inches and broke the 10-year-old record for the high jump by jumping five feet, two inches.

Clifford and Maria Montefusco broke MacArthur’s triple jump relay record. Jenna Trizzino, Kristina DeLuca, and Ayala Vanderpool broke the long jump relay record as well. Kristina Romano tied the pole vault record, getting over the bar at seven feet, six inches.

On the distance side, Jenn McLaughlin also ran a personal best in the 1500 meters with a time of 5:12, and her younger sister Lindsey also ran a personal best in the 1500 meters with a time of 5:31. To finish off the McLaughlin sisters, Sara ran a personal best in the 1,000 meters with a time of 3:35. Watch out for Alex Bivona, Elena Hegel, Meghan Levine, Michelle Lopiccolo, and newcomer Ashley Stickley in the girls racewalk. These five girls are the best set of race walkers in Nassau County.

Sophomore Jessica Race will be turning some heads this winter with a great personal best time in the 800 meters running 2:32. Montefusco, Nicole Santaniello, and Sam Maloney all ran personal bests in the 300 meters. This is just the beginning of the girls exciting new track and field season!
