The Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation and Museums will host its first annual Mixed Couples Twilight Golf Tournament at its four nine-hole courses in June and July.
The tournament, consisting of four-person “scramble” teams, will accommodate two couples signing up as a four-person team; a couple that will be paired with another couple by the tournament committee; or individuals paired with other individual players to form teams. The tournament begins at 4 p.m. shotgun (3 p.m. check-in) and includes a barbecue and awards ceremony from 6 to 8 p.m. Participants must be Nassau County residents to sign up (a Leisure Pass is also required).
The schedule is as follows: Cantiague Park in Hicksville on June 22 (registration deadline, June 11); Bay Park in East Rockaway on June 23 (deadline, June 11) Christopher Morley Park in Roslyn-North Hills on July 5 (deadline, June 25); and North Woodmere Park in North Woodmere on July 8 (deadline, June 25). The fee is $50 per person or $60 with a cart and includes golf, a barbecue and prizes. There are a limited number of carts, so cart rentals are first-come, first-serve.
Each of the courses provides a slightly different playing experience. Cantiague Park’s golf course offers a flat and easy-to-traverse property, with total yardage of 1,878. The Bay Park course has two holes over 300 yards, with total yardage of 1,956. Christopher Morley, at 1,603 yards, is a small but hilly course surrounded by trees. At 2,282 yards, North Woodmere’s course is the largest of the nine holes, with four holes over 300 yards, two of which approach 400 yards. All the courses are par-30, with the exception of North Woodmere, which is par-31.
