The MacArthur boys’ basketball team tips off its season on Saturday, Dec. 11 at 5 p.m. at Long Beach High School in the “Battle of the Classes” tournament against Manhasset, which is coached by former New York Nets guard George Bruns.
Under fifth-year coach Eric Rubin, the Generals return 81 percent of last year’s scoring, including senior Kevin Monahan (10.5 ppg last season), junior William Cheshire (8.0 ppg) and junior Kevin Roach (6.0 ppg).
Teammates elected seniors Brad Griminger and Jamie McAndrew as well as Monahan and Roach as the Generals’ 2010-11 captains.
Senior forward Evan Gardner and Roach represented MacArthur basketball in the Nassau County Top 40 All-Star Doubleheader.
The Generals welcome five newcomers to varsity: Jordan Beavers and Zach Wyckoff and juniors Parth Joshi, Dan Svenelid and Stephen Fing.
MacArthur opens its conference schedule at Hicksville High School on Friday, Dec. 17. Its first home game is Wednesday, Dec. 22, against Division in the opening round of the annual Jeff Shaw Memorial Basketball Tournament.
