As midterm exam week approaches and with it the halfway point of the girls’ basketball season, the Lady Dragons of Division Avenue High School are in first place in conference A1.
This year’s team is dominated by a very talented group of seniors. In fact the Blue Dragon’s starting lineup is entirely seniors!
Running the point guard position is senior all star Taylor Malings. Malings is a three-year varsity player and has been the starting point guard for the past two seasons. She has led the lady dragons in assists the past two seasons and is one of the top five assist leaders in Lady Dragon history.
At shooting guard is Julie Ballantyne who was named to the all county team last season as well as to the all-state tournament team. Ballantyne leads the stingy Blue Dragon defense and always draws the toughest defensive assignment each game.
Starting at the three spot for the Dragons is two-year starter Christina Rea. Rea is a three-sport athlete who will be attending Old Dominion next year on a Lacrosse scholarship.
At the four spot is Nicolette McCreary who leads the team in rebounds this season. She has the most defensive as well as offensive rebounds on the team.
Rounding out the starting five is Kristen Stuart. She was named the county tournament MVP last season and is the all time leader in Lady Dragon history for blocked shots.
Adding valuable minutes to each game are seniors Breanne Connolly and Janelle Marxhausen. Connolly is the Blue Dragon leader in three point shots made and best three point shooting percentage. Marxhausen contributes valuable minutes at the center spot and has one of the sweetest shots in the conference.
The Blue Dragons have clinched a playoff spot for the upcoming county tournament and are looking to try and secure a high seed.
