The Island Trees Varsity Football team hosted their second annual “Pink Out” game on Friday, Sept. 16. The night was a huge success on and off the field. On the field, the Bulldogs beat North Shore 32-6. Off the field, the football booster club sold breast cancer awareness T-shirts and bracelets as well as other items to raise money for the walk on Sunday, Oct. 16.
The player of the game was Mike Jeannetti. Jeannetti recorded 20 of the 32 points scored by the Bulldogs. He opened the game with an 85-yard, kickoff return TD. Jeannetti also scored twice in the 2nd quarter on a 57-yard catch from Kyle Nigro and a five-yard run. Other players who scored were Chris Pascalli and Matt Anzalone. Pascalli scampered 80 yards for the longest TD of his career late in the 1st quarter. Anzalone scored his first varsity TD on a six-yard run in the 4th quarter.
Defensively, AJ Barletta again led the team with seven tackles and two assists. The defense recorded three sacks on the night (two by Tom Sinclair and one by Joey Howard). Joey Howard was the second leading tackler recording five tackles and one assist. Jackson Young, CJ Novak, Kevin Strauss and Aaron Rosenthal each had four tackles.
The players and coaches would like to thank all those in attendance for this special night, including the booster club and varsity cheerleaders for their extra time spent preparing and decorating the bleachers and surrounding areas of the field.
The team will be playing away, at Clarke High School in Merrick on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 1:30 p.m.
