The late winter and early spring sun will most definitely be shining on the inaugural “Run Nassau” series of four great races that is aimed at getting local runners of all ages and levels of ability tuned up for the Long Island Marathon Festival of Races May 5-6.
The series, conducted by the Greater Long Island Running Club under the auspices of Nassau County and the Friends of Nassau Recreation, will consist of races at Old Bethpage Restoration Village (5 Kilometers on Saturday, Feb. 11), Nickerson Beach (4 Miles on Sunday, March 11), Cedar Creek Park (5 Miles on Saturday, April 7), Eisenhower Park (4 Miles, Saturday, April 28).
Everyone who signs up for the full series will get one of the snazzy long sleeve “Run Nassau” shirts.
Awards will be given at each of the four races to the first male and female open and masters finishers, and the first three finishers in each of 15 five-year age groups starting at 14 and under and running through 85-plus. There will be a very generous door prize drawing after each event.
Merchandise prizes, courtesy of The Runner’s Edge, the Farmingdale based running and multisport store, will be awarded after the final race to the top three male and female open and masters champions for the entire four race series. The final race will be followed by a great party with outstanding food and beverages.
The cost for the full Series is only $55 if received by Feb. 1, with a $5 discount for everyone who signs up for one of the Long Island Marathon festival of Races events at the same time.
