The Levittown School District congratulates the Division Avenue High School (DAHS) varsity wrestling team, along with Head Coach Bob Bennett and his assistants, on an outstanding season. The team finished their athletic season by placing third in their league with three wins and two losses. During the wrestling season, the team also placed second at the 2012 Oneonta Tournament behind Burnt Hills High School. Division Avenue High School was one of 14 schools that participated in this competitive athletic event, entering one wrestler per weight class.
Out of the 12 classes entered, the school’s athletes placed in eleven of the matches. While at the State University of New York at Oneonta, the wrestling team met the 1984 Greco-Roman Gold Medalist Jeff Blatnick, who is on the Burnt Hills High School coaching staff.
Congratulations to the winning student-wrestlers: Thomas Magmuffin – 1st place; Jonathan Maldonado – 1st place; Francis Alexander – 6th place; Wil Rivas – 2nd place; Timothy Schweitzer – 3rd place; Brandon Crafa – 3rd place; James Kirk – 5th place; Arthur Bain – 6th place; John Ballucci – 6th place; Jesse Pizarro – 6th place; Renato Gamboa – 6th place.
The team is now looking forward to the post-season tournaments, which are mainly designed for individual rather than team matches.
