Neighboring school districts also pass
On Tuesday, May 15, Levittown School District residents took to the polls throughout the district, resulting in an approved 2012-13 school budget with the breakdown being 2,545—yes, and 1,386—no.
This year’s budget offered to voters totaled $189,996,581. The district’s budget-to-budget increase is down 4 percent. The district also offered a 1.85 percent tax levy, less than the state’s allowable cap.
“We are extremely pleased that the community came out in force to pass this year’s budget with a 65 percent passing rate,” Superintendent Dr. James Grossane shared on behalf of the Levittown School District. “We thank them for their support and are thrilled to be able to continue all the programs that so greatly benefit the students of the Levittown Public Schools.
“This budget was a result of the hard work done in previous years by the board of education and the great working relationship between central administration and the board this year. We thank our entire community for their continued support.”
Kevin Regan and Ed Powers, school board incumbents, ran uncontested and earned re-election.
Island Trees
The Island Trees School District budget was passed on Tuesday, May 15, with a breakdown of votes 689—yes, 278—no. The 2012-13 budget totals $57,925,136 with a 1.99 percent tax levy increase. The district did face cuts to middle school and high school supplementary programming.
Incumbents Kim McDonough and Daniel Donahue each ran unopposed, and earned their trustee position with votes in favor of 562, and 583, respectively.
East Meadow
East Meadow School District voters supported the 2012-13 budget. It passed with a breakdown of 2,033—yes, and 790—no. The district’s proposal provided no cuts to programming or staffing. The budget includes a 1.97 percent increase from last year.
The proposed budget for 2012-13 totalled $184,854,290, with a 2-percent increase in taxes. Brian O’Flaherty and Walter Skinner were re-elected to the board of education.
Wantagh
The breakdown of votes for the 2012-13 Wantagh School District budget was 1,900—yes, 709—no.
The school district’s budget of $71,734,069 will be a 2.19 percent increase over last year, with a tax levy of 1.86 percent. The district was allowed a 2.2 percent increase.
Tony Greco was elected, receiving 1,720 votes, to fill the vacated seat on the school board. Candidates Stephen D’Amato and Peter Brasile received 376, and 448, respectively.
Seaford
Residents in the Seaford School District voted to support the 2012-13 budget on May 15, by a vote of 1,766—yes, 1,262—no. The budget for the 2012–13 year is $57,791,120. The total budget-to-budget increase from last year is 5.41 percent.
