Kevin Roach Commits to New Paltz

MacArthur senior forward Kevin Roach has committed to Division III New Paltz to play college basketball. Roach scored 616 points during a four-year varsity career with the MacArthur High School Generals. That production included a career-high 30 points as well as 20 rebounds against Baldwin on Jan. 6, which marked the highest scoring output by a General since Mike Gattus scored 35 in a loss at Roslyn on Dec. 4, 2006.

Roach followed the 30-point performance with 29 points the next game, at Valley Stream Central on Jan. 10, including a jumper with 3:54 remaining to break 54-all tie. He had 21 rebounds against Plainview JFK on Jan. 27.

Division II Molloy in Rockville Centre and Division III Moravian in Bethlehem, PA also recruited him.

In his final high school basketball action, Roach scored a team-high 17 points in leading his all-star squad to a win in the Nassau County Exceptional Seniors doubleheader. Teammate William Cheshire also represented the Generals in that game.

Nassau AA-II coaches to the All-County team selected Roach and Cheshire, while MacArthur senior point guard Tyler Eppich was named All-Conference.

MacArthur finished the 2011-12 season with an 11-7 record. The Generals reached the playoffs for the fourth time in the past six seasons.

New Paltz competes in the State University of New York Athletic Conference along with Brockport, Buffalo State, Cortland, Fredonia, Geneseo, Oneonta, Oswego, Plattsburgh and Potsdam.
