Hicksville BOE Reorganizes For 2012-13 School Year

During the July 3 Hicksville Board of Education meeting, the Hicksville School District trustees and administration reorganized for the official start of the 2012-13 school year.

Newly elected trustees Brenda Judson and Phil Heckler took the oath of office, which was administered by school district attorney Gary Steffanetta of Guercio & Guercio LLP. The swearing in of all trustees followed this.

By a unanimous vote, trustee Susan Powell was elected to the seat of board president and Dolores Garger was elected as vice president. Kevin J. Carroll will now serve as board secretary and newly elected trustee Phil Heckler will serve as deputy district treasurer.

Superintendent of Schools Maureen K. Bright welcomed the newly elected trustees, Phil Heckler and Brenda Judson, to the Hicksville Board of Education.

“Thank you for making a commitment to serve on the board of education,” she stated. “We are no doubt on the cusp of great educational reforms that will change the landscape of education and impact our students and communities. I look forward to working with the new board as we face new challenges and provide creative solutions to ensure the success of our students and the future stability of our community.”

The following committee and liaison appointments were also made by the board: Brenda Judson as curriculum committee chairperson, Phil Heckler as finance committee chairperson, Dolores Garger as policy committee chairperson and Kevin J. Carroll as facilities committee chairperson. Judson will serve as board liaison for Hicksville Community Council and PTA Council. Judson will also serve as parliamentarian for the board.
