Seahawks Claim Victory For Ally

The eighth-grade girls soccer team at Salk Middle School raised over $1,000 for tuberous sclerosis research and support. The team was motivated to raise these funds through their friendship with Ally Spear, 10, who was diagnosed with this genetic disorder.

Dressed in tuberous sclerosis awareness T-shirts, Spear and her parents attended the Seahawk’s Oct. 18 game against Merrick. The team credited their 2-0 victory to Spear’s positive spirit and inspiration.

Tuberous sclerosis is a group of two genetic disorders that affect the skin, brain, nervous system, kidneys and heart and cause noncancerous tumors to grow. The diseases are named after a “tuber,” or root-shaped growth that often appears in the patient’s brain.
