MacArthur Beats Mepham, Hosting Qualifiers February 2

The MacArthur wrestling team took beat the Mepham Pirates on Jan. 16 by the score of 57-18. The Generals registered five pins in the match, none being bigger than Mike Marrero’s pin over #1 ranked Louis Hernandez. The Generals kept the momentum to win two days later, as the Generals took the league title against Long Beach High School.

 MacArthur Wrestling Senior Appreciation Night

On Jan. 18, Coach Paletta announced the names of eleven senior wrestlers;  Niem Al-Qaadir, Robert Bennett, Anthony Boccassini, Christopher Cataldo, James Evans, Jefferson Lopez, Mike Marrero, Anthony Mendes, Justin Perez,  Waiss Rustermi, Joseph Tangredi who will be moving on to their next chapter of life. The senior boys and their parents were congratulated during the beginning of the match against MacArthur’s rivals, Long Beach. 

The boys’ parents participation was well recognized during the ceremony as the young men honored their mothers with a flower of thanks. The night was a huge success for MacArthur beating Long Beach. This win clinched the league title for MacArthur with a team score of 47 – 15. The above named seniors will be sorely missed next year on MacArthur’s mats and will join the elite group of alumnus. Once a General always a General. 

Congratulations to Steven Schneider for placing third and Justin Cooksey placing eighth in the Eastern States Championship in Sullivan County.

A special thanks to Sal’s Place at 1495 Hicksville Road, in North Massapequa for hosting the informal get together after the matches. MacArthur is on a roll and will be hosting the Nassau Qualifiers on Saturday, Feb. 2. Come on down to MacArthur High School to cheer them on.
