Track ‘Upper Under’ Event Draws Alumni

Under gorgeous blue skies and bright sunshine, MacArthur hosted their annual Upper/Under Event in which alumni returned to participate in various track events verses current MacArthur High School track team members.

Events included pole vaulting, hurdles, and running. MacArthur coach and alumni Jamie SanFillipo was joined by his cousin this year, Sean DePuy, also a General graduate (‘03). DePuy holds the record at MacArthur for the 110 hurdles and went on to participate in track at SUNY Delhi.

Other alumni included outstanding track star Kelly Clifford who currently plays for Adelphi, and Farmingdale’s Jordan Kohlman who set a new record pole-vaulting at MacArthur with a 13’3 jump.

On Tuesday, June 4, the Mercury Club, parent booster club for the MacArthur Cross Country, Winter and Spring Track and Field teams, held the Second Annual MacArthur High School Track and Field Hall of Fame dinner. This year’s Cross Country, Winter and Spring Track and Field teams were honored for this past year’s performances. We also inducted two track and field alumni into our Hall of Fame.

This year’s inductees were Jackie Pearce, Class of 2004, and Ryan Degnon, Class of 2008. Both honorees shared their MacArthur track experiences with everyone. This year’s seniors were honored and wished all the best as they graduate MacArthur High School. Also, The Mercury Club held a toy drive at the dinner to help the John Theissen Children’s Foundation in Wantagh. Many toys were collected and the foundation was thrilled to receive the donation.

Remember it is still not too late to be part of history by purchasing an engraved brick for the new MacArthur Walk of Recognition Fundraiser. See the school district website for details.
