On Dec. 2, the Levittown Chamber of Commerce held its annual Holiday Tree Lighting ceremony, which attracted a record crowd to Veterans Memorial Park.
This year’s event included a two-hour show, which featured musicians from the Levittown and Island Trees school districts. Some of the performances include the Northside School Holiday Singers, Northside School Instrumental Ensemble,Nancy’s Dance Studio, the
Island Trees High School Mixed Chorus and Chamber Orchestra.
The orchestra, under the direction of Mrs. Leiann McGrory, and the chorus, under the direction of Mrs. Susan Oliveto, performed holiday classics like, “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” “Silver Bells,” “Let it Snow,” “Sleigh Ride,” and “Rockin’ Around the
Christmas Tree,” as well as traditional Christmas carols, such as “O’ Come All Ye’ Faithful.”
Jolly old St. Nick also made an appearance, arriving aboard a Levittown fire truck, just in time to light the tree. Santa Claus was accompanied by Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer, Frosty the snowman and volunteers from the Levittown Fire Department’s Engine Company No. 2.
While the event was free, volunteers with the Wantagh-Levittown Ambulance Corps were on hand to collect contributions of food and toiletries. All of the donations collected from the event were delivered, the next day to St. Bernard’s Food Pantry, where they were distributed to local families in need.
Radio Station Fresh 102.7 also provided games and handouts, while the Chamber warmed the crowd with hot chocolate and homemade treats prepared and served by the East Village Green Deli.
