The next meeting of the Levittown Public Schools Board of Education will be held on March 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the Levittown Memorial Education Center, located at 150 Abbey Lane.

Community Recognition Dinner
On March 13, 2014 the Levittown School District is having their 18th Annual Recognition Dinner. The Levittown Chamber of Commerce is honoring Bill Mullan from LevitStyle Home Remodeling. This event will be held in The Panther Room Restaurant at Levittown Memorial Education Center, 150 Abbey Lane, Levittown at 6:30 p.m.
Protect Your Child Legally and Financially
The ELIJA school will be holding an informative seminar on March 13, at 7 p.m., which will address the legal and financial preparations crucial to safeguarding assets and benefits for your child with special needs.
Topics discussed will range from government benefits for individuals with disabilities, how to accumulate and preserve assets without disqualifying eligibitliy for benefits, establishing guardianship, estate planning and wills, special needs trusts and strategies for funding trusts.

Les Miserables At Island Trees
On March 14 and 15, students at Island Trees High School will put on two performances of the Broadway classic Les Miserables. Both shows begin at 7 p.m. in the high school at 59 Straight Lane in Levittown.
Taste of Italy
Stew Leonard’s Wines of Farmingdale, located at 210 Airport Plaza, and Dalla Terra Wines, importers of wines hailing from some the most esteemed family-owned wineries in Italy, will host four Italian winemakers for a tasting of 20 wines on March 14 from 4-7 p.m.
The winemakers, each from small to medium sized family-owned and multi-generational Italian estates, will offer customers a free tasting of their wines. A complimentary light menu of Italian fare: including rustic bread and cheeses will be served and bottles of each wine will be available for purchase.
Saturday, March 15
Celebrate Purim
The community is invited to come in costume to participate in the celebration of Purim at Temple B’nai Torah, 2900 Jerusalem Avenue and Oakfield Avenue, Wantagh, on Saturday, March 15, at 7:30 p.m.
Hear the story of Haman, royal vizier to King Ahasuerus, who planned to kill the Jews, but his plans were foiled by Mordecai and Queen Esther. After the celebration, there will be a gathering in the social hall.
Lenten Soup And Bread
Once again, the Wantagh Memorial Congregational Church, 1845 Wantagh Ave., will be hosting Soup and Bread Suppers during Lent. There is no charge for this supper, which will be held March 15, March 22 and March 29 at 6 p.m., in the Parish Hall. All are welcome to join us for a delicious soup and bread supper, beverage and dessert. Kid friendly food, too. There will be a short presentation/activity. If you wish to do so, you can bring a non-perishable food item which will be donated to the Freeport Emergency Food Pantry.

Town of Hempstead E-Cycling
The town’s sanitation department will be helping residents dispose of any electronic waste, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 15, at the Division Avenue Parking lot in Levittown.

The British Invasion
At the Levittown Public Library, on March 17, join pop-culture historian Bob Koenig at 7:30 p.m., for a nostalgic walk down memory lane commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Beatles arrival to America and the ensuing revolution in modern music.

When Behaviors Reach Crisis
On March 18, the ELIJA school in Levittown will hold a workshop, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. This workshop is part of the Long Island Behavior Analyst Group professional development series and is open to parents and professionals.
Night With The Islanders
On March 18, join the Island Trees PTSA at Nassau Coliseum on March 18, at 7 p.m., when the New York Islanders will host the Minnesota Wild. During the game, watch our very own Island Trees music staff and students perform. Mr. Stephen Connolly, will open the game with the singing of the National Anthem. This will be followed by a performance from the Island Trees 5th and 6th grade band at the first intermission, as well as, 5th and 6th grade chorus at the second intermission.
The deadline to register to join is March 14. Tickets are $23. With your ticket purchase, you will be entered in a raffle to win an autographed New York Islanders jersey.

Advocacy Training
The ELIJA School in Levittown will be holding a workshop with Pete Wright Esq. on March 21, from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Wrightslaw special education law and advocacy training programs are designed to meet the needs of parents, advocates, attorneys, educators, health care providers, and others who represent the interest of children with disabilities and their families.
The training program will focus on four areas, including: special education law, tests and measuring progress and regression, SMART IEP’s, and strategies and tactics for effective advocacy.

Active Parenting Of Teens
Families In Action is a six session family program developed around the premise that parents and teens are more likely to learn successfully when they learn together. Teens and parents will spend part of the time in separate groups learning complementary skills and then come together for discussion of the skills learned.
The YES Community Counseling Center will be holding this six session Active Parenting of Teens: Families in Action program on March 26, from 7-8:30 p.m. at the YES offices, located at 152 Center Lane in Levittown.
