The first public preparations for Port Washington’s biggest one day celebration are right around the corner. The HarborFest committee is looking for children between the ages of five and 18 who sing, dance, play a musical instrument, read poetry or are otherwise talented.
The Port Washington Chamber of Commerce wants “you to practice, practice, practice” and come to the HarborFest talent show auditions on April 25 and April 26, said Debbie Greco Cohen, the event’s talent chairwoman. This year’s 24th annual HarborFest celebration will take place on Sunday, June 1. The auditions will be held in the front room of 382 Main Street (the Community Chest building/Mertz Community Center) on Friday, April 25, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, April 26, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Come any time during these hours—there is no pre-registration. An MP3/iPod docking station and CD player will be provided, but no musical instruments will be available so please bring them and your music stand, Greco Cohen said.
Attention bands: If you wish to audition (whether or not you have performed at HarborFest in the past), please email debbiegreco@verizon.net for instructions anytime before April 25 instead of coming
to the auditions with your equipment. Instrumentalists not performing with bands should come to the auditions. Instrumentalists not performing with bands should come to the auditions.
The talent show will take place during HarborFest. The venue for kids, called the Fun Stage, will feature entertainment for and by children, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. The talent show, which runs for approximately three hours, will begin at 10 a.m.
In addition to the Fun Stage, activities at this year’s HarborFest include other performances, games and activities for children, a craft fair, cruises on the schooner SoundWaters and the Port Washington Water Taxi, local merchant booths, a model boat regatta, a food court, an Enviro-Expo for environmental organizations and products, a new exhibit in the “Pride of Cow Bay” nautical museum and much more.
The Fun Stage is sponsored by Diane’s Place Hair Salon, Healthy Kids Pediatrics, Little Smiles Pediatric Dentistry, and Roslyn Savings Bank—a division of New York Community Bank.
