Xiomaro, the Roslyn Heights-based artist known for his artistic renditions of American history, continues to have his photography displayed in exhibits in a variety of places.
As spring has finally arrived, Xiomaro is offering a “Roadside Bouquet” of photography, all from scenes along Long Island’s Wine Country.
The photographs are available on Xiomaro’s website at www.Xiomaro.com. They are also are part of regular fundraisers that the artist promotes. For the Roadside Boutique, Xiomaro said that one discounted Special Edition Print would be offered for each month of the 2014 calendar year.
“Sales will fund my efforts to promote the appreciation, visitation and conservation of public spaces through exhibits, publicity, talks, interactions with legislators and outreach to communities that do not traditionally frequent national parks and historical sites,” he said. “Purchase all 12 photographs during the calendar year and receive a free presentation folio for elegantly storing your prints.”
In addition to the flower display, Xiomaro will have artwork at the “Courage & Creativity” exhibit, held from June 2 to July 12 at the LeRoy Neiman Art Center at Arts Horizons, at 2785 Frederick Douglass Blvd., off of West 148th St. in New York City. Exhibit hours are: Monday and Wednesday, noon to 6 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m and Saturday,10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
An Art Splash 2014 open house for the exhibit will take place on Thursday, June 5 at the Art Center. Admission is $100, with the fundraising cocktail reception honoring Sarah Dash (founding member of Patti LaBelle & The Bluebelles)
and other VIPS, awards ceremony, exhibit and auction.
“Courage & Creativity is a group exhibit of paintings, photographs and other works inspired by an observation made by the renowned artist, Henri Matisse, ‘creativity takes courage,”’ Xiomaro said. “When creative people express their emotions through their artwork, writing or music, and they present it to the world to see, they in effect put themselves on the world stage to be critiqued. It’s bold, it’s vulnerable and it requires a certain level of self-esteem and courage. The works on exhibit will focus on this theme and concept. All artists and work have been selected by the Art Center and 40 percent of the proceeds of all sales will go to benefit the organization. The fundraising event supports the work of Arts Horizons and LeRoy Neiman Art Center, now in its sixth year of operation in Harlem and whose mission is to strengthen the community through the arts. The evening will include a cocktail reception, awards ceremony, exhibition and auction, which highlight the works of LeRoy Neiman along with a host of notable contemporary artists.”

Back on Long Island, Xiomaro’s recent photography is on display with five photographs from William Floyd’s “House of Revolution” and one photograph from Theodore Roosevelt’s “How I Love Sagamore Hill” included in the exhibit, “Long Island at War.”
This exhibit, at the Long Island Museum, 1200 Route 25A in Stony Brook, is the first major museum exhibit to consider the region’s significant and continuing connections to each American war. The large-scale, 3,000 sq. ft. exhibit presents over 200 artifacts, paintings and photographs drawn from many prominent museum and private collections as well as an oral history component with videotaped interviews from Long Island veterans. It runs from May 23 to Dec. 28 of this year.
Xiomaro’s artwork will appear in the exhibit’s six sections on each of America’s military engagements.
A talk and Q & A with Xiomaro on William Floyd’s House of Revolution is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 19, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Museum’s Gillespie Room in the Carriage Museum Building.
