On May 27, Levittown firefighters responded to a call of a house fire on Balsam Lane. When firefighters arrived they found the home was engulfed flames and had started to extend towards the neighbor’s garage.
Rushing into the burning house, Levittown firefigthers requested that the neighboring Wantagh Fire Department send a “Fast Truck,” in the event that the firefighters became trapped. Ladder
Company No. 2 responded and were put right to work. An additional ladder truck was also requested from Hicksville, and units from East Meadow and North Bellmore were relocated into Levittown firehouses where they answered several calls.
According to Fire Department personnel, the occupants of the home evacuated and “refused medical aid.” One firefighter was rushed to a nearby hospital for heat exhaustion, where he was monitored and later released.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined as of press time.
