People with common or severe dermatologic conditions can now seek medical treatment through the North Shore-LIJ Health System’s new dermatology department, offering care at 321 Crossways Dr. in Woodbury.
The department is chaired by Amit Garg, a board-certified dermatologist who previously directed the dermatology residency training program and the Rheumatic Skin Disease Center at Boston University Medical Center. He has recruited a team of eight dermatologists to help serve the community; the number of physicians is slated to expand.
“We look forward to providing the people on Long Island and the broader New York metropolitan area with a high quality, patient-centered experience related to all of their dermatologic care needs,” Garg said. “You may have already seen us in your community and workplace supporting melanoma awareness events such as Colette Coyne Miles for Melanoma and Don’t ‘Fryday’. We are excited to be part of this community of patients and doctors supporting health in skin.”
The department is the only academic dermatology center in Nassau County. It will support residency and fellowship training programs as well as core educational and clinical experiences for medical students at the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine. The department will also engage in early phase clinical trials research, as well as in patient-centered health services research which will help pave the way for new models of dermatologic care in the near future.
The dermatology department at North Shore-LIJ provides clinical services in the following areas: General dermatologic care for adults and children with skin, hair and nail diseases; Melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers; Skin lymphomas; Rheumatic skin diseases, including psoriasis, lupus, dermatomyositis and vasculitis; Phototherapy services; Contact dermatitis and allergy testing; Blistering disease, including sarcoidosis; Inherited skin disorders, birthmarks and vascular abnormalities in infancy; Procedural cosmetic services including botox, fillers and ablative and non-ablative laser therapies; and dermatopathology services.
