New York Blood Center (www.nybloodcenter.org) will be having a blood drive at the St. Peter of Alcantara’s cafeteria at 1321 Port Washington Blvd. on Sunday, Sept. 28, between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. The drive is being organized by Port resident Justin Straggi.
As the region heads into the back-to-school season, New York Blood Center (NYBC) has issued an emergency blood appeal, reporting that community supplies of all types of donor blood are at critically low levels.
In the wake of this shortage, NYBC has issued an urgent call for potential blood donors. NYBC reports that while it is distributing more blood than last year at this time, the summer vacation months have been particularly hard on blood donations and supplies.
Each pint of blood can save up to as many as three lives. When a donor gives blood, it’s a gift that lasts a lifetime.
For more information or to make an appointment, call Justin or Kate Straggi at 516-365-0151, or email at stragg@verizon.net.
Walk-in donors are welcome, but the sponsors prefer to plan ahead with appointments and have sufficient staff available.
