Linda Karlon has seen and experienced a lot in her long life. Now, she is going to mark a rare milestone: turning 100.
The resident of Sands Point Center for Health and Rehabilitation will hit the mark on Oct. 14.
And Karlon is ready for many more. “It’s exciting, but it feels like it’s just another year,” she said.
As Karlon looks back over the past 100 years, she calls the computer the most significant invention of her lifetime—and she has one.
World War II was the most astounding incident to her, partially because of her German roots.
Karlon was born in Hamburg, and immigrated to the US in 1932, when, as a 17-year-old bride, she joined her new husband in Great Neck. She lived within the New York City boroughs and in Plainview until four years ago, when she moved into the center.
Karlon enjoys participating in many activities, including the ladies club, book club and painting group. She was honored when one of her paintings was selected to be featured in the 2015 NYS Health Facilities Association “Art from the Heart” calendar.
Karlon loves to spend time with family, which is nearby.
Her daughter and granddaughters live in Port, while her grandson and his family live in Manhasset.
The great grandchildren hold a special place in her heart, and with five great granddaughters who attend Sousa, Weber and Schreiber, in addition to her great grandson, who attends Shelter Rock Elementary School, she considers herself to be incredibly fortunate.
