A$1,500 music scholarship is available to Nassau County high school seniors through fundraising efforts by the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock in Manhasset.
The Edward Miller Memorial Scholarship was founded by the Music Committee of UUCSR in September, 2004 to honor the memory of Edward Miller, former teacher at East Rockaway High School and Music Director at the Congregation. Between then and now, the congregation has given away thirteen scholarships directly to students assisting their continued study of music.
For 2014, the Committee has set the award to $1,500; the result of a successful evening of fundraising at an annual cabaret concert held on Nov. 15.
Candidates for the scholarship must show talent and the will to succeed, have financial need, and be graduating from a high school located within Nassau County.
The Nassau Music Educators Association (NMEA) will choose the recipients.
Scholarship guidelines and the application can be found online at www.uucsr.org/worship/music/the-edward-miller-memorial
