To kick off the new year, Port apparel store Digmi has created a “Livin’ Legend” award and announced former New York Yankee captain Derek Jeter as the first recipient.
The award recognize individuals who embody the Digmi philosophy of “Live Your Dreams Be Yourself,” often abbreviated to Live.Dream.Be, said Digmi founder Ray Digmi.
Being a DIGMI “Livin’ Legend” is about more than one single instance of greatness; it is about a lifetime of chasing dreams while staying true to who you are, Digmi said. “These individuals are considered role models for us all. They are the athletes, the community leaders, the artists, the dreamers, the actors, the musicians. They are a daily reminder that being yourself is worth more than fitting in.”
As for Jeter, he chased his dream of playing for the New York Yankees since his days in little league and that “gives hope not only to the next generation, but to all of us that if we work hard, stay focused and committed we too can reach our dreams,” said Digmi. “But more than his accomplishments on the field, Derek has provided a shining example of selfless dedication to giving back to the community through the Turn 2 Foundation, which is dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles and giving kids the tools they need to chase their dreams. He has been a model of a grace in victory or defeat, of giving back and of the importance of remembering where we come from—all in an age when true role models are tough to come by.”
