Lady Dragons Soar Into First Place

At the midpoint of the Nassau County Girls’ Basket ball season we find the Blue Dragons of Division Avenue High School atop of Conference A3 with a 4-1 record. On Friday, Jan. 16 the Lady Dragons handed previously unbeaten Floral Park their first loss, 50-46. Jessica Fressle led Division with 19 points and 17 rebounds. This was Jessie’s ninth double-double of the season.

The Blue Dragons trailed at halftime by 15 points. However after a few minor defensive adjustments and the three point shooting of Erin McCauley and Erin Morris the Dragons came roaring back into the lead. Erica Bleimeyer had 8 steals to help solidify the win. Erica also assisted on Nora Tracey’s game winning basket!

The Blue Dragons have been stabilized and calmly led by eighth grade point guard Madison Gillis. Maddie instantly broke into the starting lineup this year and now leads the team in assists. Adding defensive spark off the bench is senior Alex Sparrow who usually draws the toughest defensive assignment each game. Kate McDonough helps bolster the Blue Dragon offense and adds energy and hustle off the bench.

Other players rounding out this year’s squad are Brittany Voboril, Amanda Pataky, Jessica Vespa, and Nicole Cody.
