Massapequa’s Boy Scout Troop 660 recently took a tour of Boston and walked The Freedom Trail as part of their “Citizenship in the Nation” requirement.
The 2.5 mile trail, which took the scouts to 16 historic landmarks, was marked by paint or a bricked red line. The troop enjoyed the walk and learned a great deal about American history. Of the famous sites, the scouts saw Paul Revere’s house, Boston Common and King’s Chapel.
In order to obtain their “Citizenship in the Nation” requirement, the scouts needed to visit National Historic Landmarks, tour federal facilities, learn about the significance of national monuments and understand the branches of federal government. The trip was also very significant for the older scouts working towards earning their Eagle Scout rank, as it is a mandatory requirement.
