About three of every four car seats are installed improperly, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. As www.safercar.gov states, “your child’s safety could be in jeopardy if your car seat is not installed correctly.”
On June 30, Nassau County will offer residents the opportunity to ensure the safety of their children’s car seats. Free car seat safety checks will be performed at the Manorhaven Village Hall from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Chris Mistron, a Traffic Safety Educator with the Nassau County Traffic Safety Board, will make sure that car seats are properly installed and will instruct residents on the proper manner in which to take the car seats out and put them back in.
Mistron has been offering this free service since 1996 all over Nassau County. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to have a Nassau County Traffic Safety Board inspection. The inspection will take approximately 15 minutes. A reservation is required. Residents who wish to have their car seats checked can call 516-571-6211 to make an appointment, and they can bring as many cars as they wish.
