The Parent Resource Center (PRC) is offering a Couples Workshop through its Parent University Program.

On four consecutive Wednesdays, from 8 to 9 p.m., couples therapist and educator Michael Nott, LCSW, will present a workshop series, “Getting and Staying Unstuck—A How-to Guide for You, Your Partner and Your Relationship.” The sessions run from Oct. 14 through Nov. 4.

According to Nott, many couples wonder why, despite their best intentions, they interact in ways that leave one or both of them feeling hurt, misunderstood, angry or resentful. They’re drawn over and over again into the same unproductive and unfulfilling ways of relating and don’t know how to break out of this depleting dynamic.

In the sessions, participants will explore the powerful inner forces that are hard at work undermining their efforts to communicate constructively with their partners and to feel safe, loved and connected in their romantic relationships. They will also learn practical tips and tools for getting their relationships unstuck and on track to being healthier and more fulfilling.

Session 1 (Oct. 14): Our Brains and Emotional Safety
Session 2 (Oct. 21): The Shadows of Past Relationships
Session 3 (Oct. 28): Development and Difference
Session 4 (Nov. 4): Troubleshooting Relationship Difficulties

The four-session workshop is designed for people in committed romantic relationships, but participants can easily apply the tips and tools they’ll gain to improve their parent-child relationships, extended family relationships and relationships with friends and coworkers.

Michael Nott, LCSW, is an experienced psychotherapist with offices in Garden City, Manhattan and Westchester. He is currently on staff as a family and couples therapist at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy in Manhattan and teaches couples therapy at the master’s degree level. He is a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW).
